|Description||Measurement of the percentage of esterified serum cholesterol is helpful in establishing a diagnosis of lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency and to evaluate the extent of metabolic disturbance by bile stasis or liver disease.

|Specimen||Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube following an overnight (12 - 14 hour) fast. Patient must not consume any alcohol for 24 hours before the specimen is drawn. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum FROZEN plastic vial on dry ice.|
