RSENS
ANTIMICROBIAL SUSCEPTIBILITY, AEROBIC OR ANAEROBIC BACTERIA (MIC)

Test Code RSENS
Test ANTIMICROBIAL SUSCEPTIBILITY, AEROBIC OR ANAEROBIC BACTERIA (MIC)
Methodology Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)
Description For non-fastidious aerobic or facultative organisms: Microtube Dilution
For fastidious aerobic or facultative organisms: Etest
For anaerobic bacteria: Etest
Specimen Send infecting bacteria. Bacteria should be in pure culture, actively growing, placed in a proper mailing container (agar plates are not acceptable), and labeled as an etiologic agent. Use appropriate anaerobic media or anaerobic transport device for anaerobic bacteria. Appropriate antimicrobials will be tested. See the "Antimicrobial Susceptibility Tests" section of "Microbiology" for more specific information.

NOTE: ORGANISM AND SPECIMEN SOURCE ARE REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.

Reference Values Results reported in g/mL with interpretive category (S -Susceptible, I - Intermediate, R - Resistant)
Analytic Time Aerobic and facultative organisms - 2 Days Anaerobic organisms - 4 Days
Day(s) Test Set Up Monday through Sunday
CPT Code(s) 87181  Antibiotic susceptibility (gradient strip), per antibiotic tested, if indicated
87184  Antibiotic susceptibility (disc method), if indicated
87186  Antibiotic susceptibility (MIC), if indicated
