Methodology Enzymatic 
Description Used as an indicator of hepatocellular damage, and specifically of impending hepatic coma and terminal steps of cirrhosis. Very useful in the diagnosis and prognosis of Reye's syndrome. 
Specimen Draw blood in a lavendar top (EDTA) tube and place specimen on wet ice immediately. Deliver to lab ASAP. If not tested immediately, separate plasma from cells within 15 minutes of draw. Send 1.0 mL of plasma in a plastic vial FROZEN on dry ice. 
Reference Values Adults:
Female: 11 - 51 umol/L
Male: 16 - 60 umol/L
