Methodology Turbidimetric Immunoassay 
Description Used in the diagnosis of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency which can lead to neonatal hepatitis and development of emphysema at an early age. 
Specimen Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 0.5 mL (minimum volume: 0.3 mL) of serum refrigerated. 
Reference Values 90 - 200 mg/dL

NOTE: If clinically indicated, patients with <125 mg/dL should be phenotyped to confirm homozygous and heterozygous deficiencies.
