Methodology Compensated Polarized Light Microscopy 
Description Useful for the detection of urate or pyrophosphate crystals in synovial fluid. 
Specimen 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL ) of synovial fluid in a green-top (sodium heparin NO GEL) or a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Forward specimen promptly.
NOTE: Only lavender-top tube tubes containing liquid EDTA are acceptable.
