Methodology Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) 
Description Useful for detecting the presence of antibodies to Helicobacter pylori which indicates current or past exposure to the microorganism. 
Specimen Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (0.5 mL minimum) of serum refrigerated. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice.

NOTE: GROSSLY LIPEMIC, ICTERIC, OR HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. 

Reference Values Negative: Negative for IgG antibodies to H. pylori
Equivocal: Equivocal for IgG antibodies to H. pylori. Suggest retesting in 2 - 4 weeks if clinically indicated
Positive: Positive for IgG antibodies to H. pylori
