Methodology Hemagglutination 
Description Useful for detecting the heterophile antibodies of infectious mononucleosis in plasma or serum. 
Specimen SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:

PLASMA
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. (HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of EDTA plasma refrigerated.
NOTE:
1. Indicate plasma on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

SERUM (preferred)
Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or a serum gel tube. (HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated.
NOTE:
1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
