Test POTASSIUM, SERUM 
Methodology Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE) 
Description Useful for evaluation of electrolyte balance and acid-base balance. 
Specimen Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube. (HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) Spin down and separate serum from clot within 2 hours of draw. Send 1.0 mL (0.3 mL minimum) of serum refrigerated. 
MMC Specimen Draw blood in a plasma gel tube. (HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) 1.0 mL (0.3 mL minimum) of plasma required. 
Reference Values 3.3 - 5.3 mEq/L

Critical values:
Adults: <= 2.8 mEq/L or >= 6.5 mEq/L - Outpatients
Adults <= 2.8 mEq/L or >= 6.2 mEq/L - Inpatients
Neonatal: <= 3.0 mEq/L or >= 7.0 mEq/L
