Methodology Colorimetric 
Description Useful for detecting breakdown of the blood-central nervous system barrier (seen in conditions such as meningitis and encephalomyelitis). Excessive concentrations seen in Froin's syndrome. 
Specimen 1.0 mL (0.5 mL minimum) of spinal fluid. Spin down and separate the supernatant within 4 hours of collection into a clean, plastic spinal fluid container. Send supernatant refrigerated. Indicate tube number on container. 
Reference Values 15 - 45 mg/dL
