|Test||S-100 PROTEIN, IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY STAIN|
|Description||S-100 protein is a marker protein for a variety of tumor types, e.g., glioma, melanoma, neurilemmoma, neurofibroma, nevi, as well as histiocytosis X. It can be used in conjunction with antisera to epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) or keratin and leukocyte common antigen in the investigation of undifferentiated large cell malignant neoplasms, see "Epithelial Membrane Antigen (EMA), Immunohistochemistry Stain," or "Leukocyte Common Antigen (LCA), Immunohistochemistry Stain."
NOTE: This test is usually ordered in conjunction with a pathology consultation. The pathology professional component will be billed separately by the consulting pathologist.
