Description Clinical Significance: Zinc is an essential element involved in a myriad of enzyme systems including wound healing, immune function, and fetal development. Zinc measurements are used to detect and monitor industrial, dietary, and accidental exposure to zinc. Also, zinc measurements may be used to evaluate health and monitor response to treatment. 
Specimen 1. Draw blood in a royal dark blue-top EDTA tube Monoject trace element blood collection tube. SPIN WITHIN 2 HOURS and transfer, (do not pipette), 2mL (minimum 0.7 mL) separated plasma into a plastic, acid-washed or metal free vial. Send room temperature.
