Methodology High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) 
Description Useful for determining vitamin B6 status, including in persons who present with progressive nerve compression disorders, such as carpal tunnel and tarsal tunnel syndromes; also useful in determining the overall success of a vitamin B6 supplementation program and in the diagnosis and evaluation of hypophosphatasia 
Specimen Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube following an overnight (12-14 hour) fast. Infants draw prior to next feeding. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of EDTA plasma FROZEN in plastic vial. PROTECT FROM LIGHT.

NOTE:
1. Vitamin supplement or alcohol must not be ingested for
24 hours before the specimen is drawn.

2. Centrifuge immediatley and aliquot all plasma into amber vial, (or plastic transfer tube protected from light) freeze immediately.
