|Description||Useful for determining vitamin B6 status, including in persons who present with progressive nerve compression disorders, such as carpal tunnel and tarsal tunnel syndromes; also useful in determining the overall success of a vitamin B6 supplementation program and in the diagnosis and evaluation of hypophosphatasia|
|Specimen||Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube following an overnight (12-14 hour) fast. Infants draw prior to next feeding. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of EDTA plasma FROZEN in plastic vial. PROTECT FROM LIGHT.
2. Centrifuge immediatley and aliquot all plasma into amber vial, (or plastic transfer tube protected from light) freeze immediately.
