|Test||PIPECOLIC ACID, SERUM|
|Methodology||Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)|
|Description||Pipecolic acid determination is useful for the differential diagnosis between disorders of peroxismal biogenesis (elevated pipecolic acid) and disorders with loss of a single peroxisomal function (normal pipecolic acid).|
|Specimen||Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube from a fasting patient, (12 hours or more, infants and small children just before next feeding). Spin specimen down within 45 minutes of draw. Send 1.5 mL (minimum: 1.0 mL) of serum FROZEN in plastic vial.
NOTE: PATIENT'S AGE IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
