Methodology Conventional Culture 
Description Includes Gram stain. Significant isolates reflex to organism identification and antibiotic susceptibility test. Additional charges apply. 
Specimen 1. Aseptically collect 0.5-10 mL of fluid.
2. Submit specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container.
3. Label container with patientís name (first and last), date of birth or medical record number, date and time of collection, collectorís initials and specimen source.
4. Maintain sterility and forward promptly

NOTE: SPECIMEN SOURCE IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING. 

Reference Values No growth
Stain or culture positive for organisms is a critical value with auto call-back when specimen is CSF, synovial fluid, pericardial fluid or pleural fluid. 
Analytic Time Positive smears or cultures reported when detected. Negatives reported at 4 Days.
