Methodology Enzymatic Activity 
Description Useful for differentiating chronic granulocytic leukemia from leukemoid reaction. 
Specimen SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:

BLOOD
SPECIMEN MUST ARRIVE WITHIN 1 HOUR OF DRAW.
Draw blood in a green-top (heparin) tube, and immediately forward 3.0 - 5.0 mL (1.0 mL minimum) of heparinized whole blood to the Hematology Laboratory. If specimen will not arrive within 1 hour of draw, prepare and send peripheral blood smears.

SMEARS
Submit 6 well-made peripheral blood smears. Smears should be stained for enzyme activity within 8 - 12 hours of preparation. Loss of activity may occur when there is a delay. Send slides in plastic slide container.
