|Methodology||Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)|
|Description||Useful for detecting rotavirus antigen in patient stool. The virus is eliminated from the infected individual whithin a few days following acute infection. A prolonged carrier state has been recognized with rotavirus infection.|
|Specimen||10 g of stool in a clean, dry container free of detergent residue. Do not dilute the stool specimen. Place in a screw-capped, sterile container in a tightly sealing plastic bag and send refrigerated. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
NOTE: A specimen obtained from a diaper is acceptable if it is transferred promptly to a screw-capped, sterile container for transport to the laboratory.
