|Test||CD31, IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY STAIN|
|Description||CD31 is expressed by stem cells of the hematopoeitic system, platelets, and plasma cells (detected in frozen sections and smears). In paraffin-embedded tissues, the CD31 antibody labels normal and neoplastic endothelial cells. It is useful when judging the extent of vascularization of tumors, and for the demonstration of endothelial cell-derived neoplasms. It reacts weakly with mantle zone B-cells, peripheral T-cells and neutrophils.
NOTE: This test is usually ordered in conjunction with a pathology consultation. The pathology professional component will be billed separately by the consulting pathologist.
