Test CREATININE CLEARANCE, SERUM AND URINE 
Methodology Enzymatic Colorimetric 
Description Renal function test to measure glomerular filtration rate. Includes total volume measurement, 24-hour urine creatinine, serum creatinine, and creatinine clearance.

eGFR/GFR is calculated on patients greater than 18yrs of age

NOTE: Acetaminophen concentrations at toxic levels and high doses of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) used to treat acetaminophen intoxication can falsely lower the result of this test. N-Acetylcysteine used as mucolytic will not influence the result of this test. 

Specimen Both serum and urine are requested for this test.

SERUM
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.3 mL) of serum refrigerated. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

NOTE:
SERUM SPECIMEN MUST BE DRAWN WITHIN 24 HOURS OF START OR COMPLETION OF URINE COLLECTION.

URINE
10 mL (minimum volume: 1.0 mL) from a 24-hour urine collection in a clean, non-sterile plastic urine container. No preservative preferred; HCL, Acetic Acid, Boric Acid, Sodium Carbonate are acceptable. Refrigerate specimen during collection and send specimen refrigerated. Label specimen appropriately (urine).

NOTE:
1. 24-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
2. Prior to aliquoting specimen, mix specimen well, measure and record volume and any urine preservative information.
3. Follow "Urine Collection" instructions.
