Methodology Enzymatic 
Description Useful for detection of ethanol in plasma or serum to document prior consumption or administration of ethanol. Quantitation of the concentration of ethanol in serum correlates directly with the degree of toxicity. 
Specimen Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 0.5 mL of serum FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice.

NOTE:
1. ALCOHOL SHOULD NOT BE USED TO PREPARE THE VENIPUNCTURE SITE. BETADINE®, OR OTHER ANTISEPTICS THAT DO NOT CONTAIN ALCOHOL SHOULD BE USED. 
MMC Specimen Draw blood in a plasma gel tube. 0.5 mL plasma required. Deliver to lab ASAP.
