Methodology Turbidimetric Immunoassay 
Description Useful for detecting diabetics (and others) at risk for renal failure; monitoring effectiveness of maneuvers such as blood pressure control, glucose control, and/or protein restriction, particularly in early diabetes to prevent progression to overt proteinuria. 
Specimen 20 mL (minimum volume: 1.0 mL) from a first-morning urine collection in a clean, non-sterile, plastic urine container. No preservative. Send specimen refrigerated.

NOTE:
1. Strenuous exercise should be avoided prior to collection.
2. Urinary tract infection, hematuria, and clinical proteinuria will cause elevation of urinary albumin.
3. Follow "Urine Collection" instuctions.
