Test MICROALBUMIN, 24-HOUR URINE 
Methodology Turbidimetric Immunoassay 
Description Useful for detecting diabetics (and others) at risk for renal failure; monitoring effectiveness of maneuvers such as blood pressure control, glucose control, and/or protein restriction, particularly in early diabetes to prevent progression to overt proteinuria. 
Specimen 20 mL (minimum volume: 1.0 mL) from a 24-hour urine collection in a clean, non-sterile plastic urine container. No preservative. Send specimen refrigerated.

NOTE:
1. STARTING AND ENDING DATES AND TIMES OF THE 24-HOUR COLLECTION AND THE 24-HOUR VOLUME ARE REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
2. Prior to aliquoting specimen, mix specimen well, measure and record volume.
3.Strenuous exercise should be avoided prior to collection.
4. Urinary tract infection, hematuria, and clinical proteinuria will cause elevation of urinary albumin.
5. Follow "Urine Collection" instructions.
