|Test||HOMEOSTATSIS MODEL ASSESSMENT OF INSULIN RESISTANCE (HOMA-IR)|
|Methodology||Glucose - Spectrophotometric (SP)
Insulin- Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECL)
|Description||For identifying insulin resistance as a risk factor for future stroke or myocardial infarction in non-diabetic patients with a clinical history of ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
This test is intended for fasting adult patients only
This panel includes:
|Specimen||Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube from a fasting patient. Spin down and send 1.0 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial. Frozen specimen preferred, but refrigerated is acceptable. Insulin is stable for 24 hours at 2 - 8° C.
No sample should be collected on patients until at least 14 days after a stroke or TIA
No sample should be collected on patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. > 5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours after the last biotin administration.
|Reference Values||Glucose (FBS) 70 - 99 mg/dL
Insulin (INSLN) 2.6 - 24.9 µU/mL
Insulin Resistance Index 0.0 – 3.0
|Analytic Time||1 Day|
|Day(s) Test Set Up||Monday through Sunday|
