PNEUM / MYCO-M
MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIAE ANTIBODIES, IGG AND IGM, SERUM

Test Code PNEUM / MYCO-M
Test MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIAE ANTIBODIES, IgG AND IgM, SERUM
Methodology M.pneumoniae Ab, IgG and IgM -Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
M.pneumoniae Ab, IgM by IFA - Indirect Immunofluorescence assay.
Description Useful for the diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.

If Mycoplasma pneumoniae antibodies, IgM is positive (>=1.10),
then Mycoplasma pneumoniae antibodies, IgM by indirect
immunofluorescence assay (IFA) will be performed at an
additional charge.

Specimen Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin
down and send a 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped plastic vial. Forward promptly.
Reference Values IgG: Negative

IgM: Negative

IgM by IFA: Negative

Positive IgM results are consistent with recent infection, although false-positives may occur (see Cautions).

A single positive IgG result only indicates previous immunologic exposure.

Negative results do not rule out the presence of acute or ongoing Mycoplasma pneumoniae-associated disease. The specimen may have been drawn before the appearance of detectable antibodies. If testing is performed too early following primary infection, IgG and IgM may not be detectable. If a Mycoplasma infection is clinically suspected, a second, convalescent specimen should be submitted in 14 to 21 days

Analytic Time 1 Day
Day(s) Test Set Up Monday through Friday
