|Methodology||Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)|
|Description||Useful for diagnosis of primary, acute phase infection with CMV, especially in patients with infectious mononucleosis and pregnant women who, based on clinical signs or exposure, may have primary CMV infection.|
|Specimen||Draw blood in a plain red-top or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice.|
Equivocal samples should be retested on a fresh sample in 2 weeks if clinically indicated.
