Methodology Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) 
Description Useful for diagnosis of primary, acute phase infection with CMV, especially in patients with infectious mononucleosis and pregnant women who, based on clinical signs or exposure, may have primary CMV infection. Determining whether a patient had CMV infection in the past. 
Specimen Draw blood in a plain red-top or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice.
