Methodology Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay 
Description Useful as first-order screening for celiac disease, for identifying individuals who should be subjected to biopsy for celiac disease, for screening for dermatitis herpetiformis in conjunction with EMA antibody test, and for monitoring adherence to gluten-free diet in patients with dermatitis herpetiformis and celiac disease. 
Specimen Draw blood in a plain red-top or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice. 
Reference Values Negative: < 4 units
Weak Positive: 4 - 10 units
Moderate to Strong Positive: >10 units
