Methodology Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) 
Description Useful as an aid in the clinical diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis.

Includes Antibodies to Early Antigen, Antibodies to Nuclear Antigen, IgG Antibodies to Viral Capsid Antigen, and IgM Antibodies to Viral Capsid Antigen. 

Specimen Draw blood in a plain red-top or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice.
NOTE: HEMOLYZED OR LIPEMIC SPECIMENS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
