Methodology Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) 
Description Useful in the diagnosis and management of a variety of thyroid disorders, including autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, certain types of goiter, and polyendocrine auto-immunopathies. 
Specimen Draw blood in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice. 
Reference Values Thyroglobulin Antibody
Negative: <0.6U
Weak Positive: 0.6 - 1.0U
Moderate Positive to Strong Positive: >1.0U

Thyroperoxidase (TPO)
Negative: 0-100U
Positive: >100U

A negative result indicates no thyroid peroxidase antibody or levels below the negative cut-off of the assay. A positive result indicates the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies and suggests the possibility of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and/or Graves' Disease
