HCVVL (if indicated): COBAS Ampliprep/COBAS Taqman HCV Test, v2.0, Quantitative Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) 

Description Useful for diagnosis of current hepatitis C viral (HCV) infection, chronic HCV infection, or resolved HCV (past) infection.

NOTE: This test should not be ordered on children less than 2 years of age. The recommended test for this population is "HCV RNA Viral Load (HCVVL)" 

Specimen Red Top or Serum Gel tube AND Lav Top

1. Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated.

2. Draw blood in a lavender-top tube. Spin separate and freeze plasma. Forward along with serum. 

Reference Values Negative (reported as positive, negative or equivocal)
NOTE: If result is positive or equivocal result will reflex to HCVVL.
