|Description||Useful in detection of infections, hemorrhage and cellular abnormalities.
Fluids tested are; CSF, Peritoneal, Pericardial, Synovial, Ventricular, Pleural or other fluid.
|Specimen||CSF: 1.0 mL (0.5 mL minimum) of spinal fluid in a screw-capped, sterile vial. Clotted CSF specimens are not acceptable.
All other fluids: 1.0 mL of body fluid in either a green-top (heparin) tube or a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Clotted specimens may be rejected as clots invalidate quantitative count. Deliver to NorDx (Bramhall site) Hematology ASAP. Cell counts may be falsely decreased if there is a delay in testing. Send specimen(s) refrigerated if delivery to lab is greater than 1 hour; otherwise send at room temperature.
