|Test||HEPATITIS C GENOTYPING|
|Methodology||PCR followed by Pyrosequencing|
|Description||Identify Hepatitis C Virus genotype in patients known to have active HCV infection. Clinical progression can be genotype-dependent and differ with regard to disease severity and response to treatment. HCV genotype designation can be used to guide treatment duration and predict the possible success of viral therapies.
NOTE: Patient must have had a recent HCV viral load performed with results > 2,000 IU/mL and has not undergone treatment.
|Specimen||Draw blood in a serum gel tube, plain red-top tube, or a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. (GREEN-TOP HEPARIN TUBE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) Spin down, remove serum or plasma from cells within 24 hours and send 2.0 mL (minimum of 0.5mL) of serum or EDTA plasma FROZEN in a screw-capped plastic vial.|
|Analytic Time||2 Days; Maximum Laboratory Time - 10 Days|
|Day(s) Test Set Up||Thursday through Friday|
