|Description||Useful in diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (gestational)|
|Specimen||NOTE: Glucose Tolerance Tests are drawn at NorDx Patient Service Centers Monday through Friday only.
Draw a fasting specimen in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube (HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.). Spin down and separate serum from clot within 2 hours. Send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.3 mL) of serum refrigerated.
A gray sodium fluoride tube may be substituted if the specimen cannot be spun and separated within two hours of collection. Send refrigerated.
After glucola has been administered draw a specimen at the 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour time intervals using the specimen collection criteria noted above.
