Description Useful in diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (gestational) 
Specimen NOTE: Glucose Tolerance Tests are drawn at NorDx Patient Service Centers Monday through Friday only.

Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube one hour after glucola has been administered (HEMOLYZED SPECIMEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.). Spin down and separate serum from clot within 2 hours. Send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.3 mL) of serum refrigerated.

A gray sodium fluoride tube may be substituted if the specimen cannot be spun and separated within two hours of collection. Send refrigerated. 

Reference Values 1 hour: 70-139 mg/dL
