|Description||Useful for detecting hidden blood in stool specimens. This is not the preferred test for colon caner screening..
NOTE: This test, when ordered on Medicare patients, is subject to the National Coverage Determination (NCD) policy "Fecal Occult Blood". Please verify that the diagnosis code (ICD-10) you have chosen demonstrates medical necessity for the test as documented in the physician's patient record. The CMS web site is available to assist you with this verification. A properly executed Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) must be submitted with the specimen if medical necessity is not demonstrated by the ICD-10 code chosen
|Specimen||Submit a single HEMOCCULT® SENSA SLIDE. Follow Collection and Application directions on the Hemoccult Slide. DO NOT DEVELOP TEST - submit undeveloped slide. STORE SLIDE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE. Slide must be received in Laboratory within 14 days of collection.
Note: Patient should be instructed to avoid Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory medication (Asprin, Ibuprofen, or Naproxin), and Vitamin C supplements for 7 days prior to testing. Acetaminophen and Iron Supplements are NOT expected to affect test results. Patient should avoid ingesting red meat (beef, lamb, or liver) for 3 days prior to testing.
