BARBI
BARBITURATES SCREEN WITH GC-MS CONFIRMATION, URINE

Test Code BARBI
Test BARBITURATES SCREEN WITH GC-MS CONFIRMATION, URINE
Methodology Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry (GC-MS), if indicated
Description The Screening assay detects barbiturates in urine, If the barbiturate screen is > = 200 ng/mL, the barbiturate confirmation/quantitation by GC-MS is performed at an additional charge.

THIS TEST IS INTENDED FOR CLINICAL MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS. IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR NON-MEDICAL USE SUCH AS EMPLOYMENT OR FORENSIC TESTING.

Note: Specific gravity, pH, creatinine and oxidants will be performed and reported at no additional charge to identify potential adulteration of the urine specimen.

INTENDED POSITIVES:
Amobarbital (Amytal)
Butalbital (Component of Esgic, Fioricet, Fiorinal, Phrenilin)
Pentobarbital
Phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton)
Secobarbital (Seconal)

POSSIBLE UNINTENDED POSITIVES:
Mephobarbital (Mebaral)
Primidone (Mysoline)

Specimen 25 mL (10.0 mL minimum) from a random urine collection in a non-sterile urine container. Send specimen refrigerated.
Reference Values Not Detected
EIA cutoff concentration: 200 ng/mL

GC-MS cutoff concentrations:
-Amobarbital: <40 ng/mL
-Butalbital: <40 ng/mL
-Butabarbital: <40 ng/mL
-Pentobarbital: <40 ng/mL
-Phenobarbital:<200 ng/mL
-Secobarbital: <40 ng/mL
