|Test||HEPATITIS B VIRUS (HBV) DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION BY PCR, SERUM|
|Methodology||COBAS® AmpliPrep/COBAS® TaqMan® HBV test, v2.0|
|Description||This test is useful for quantitation of HBV DNA in the serum of patients with chronic HBV infection, and for monitoring progression of chronic HBV infection and/or response to anti-HBV therapy.
NOTE: This assay should not be used for initial evaluation of patients with HBV infection. Laboratory evaluation of HBV status should begin with HBV serological marker tests.
|Specimen||Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, plain red-top, or serum gel tube (SST). Spin down, remove plasma or serum from cells within 24 hours, and send 2.0 mL of serum or EDTA plasma FROZEN in a screw-capped plastic vial.|
The quantification range of this test is 20 to 170,000,000 IU/mL
Positive results with the comment, “HBV DNA detected, but less than 20 IU/mL", indicate that HBV DNA is present but at a level below the quantifiable range of this assay. When clinically indicated, follow-up testing by this assay is recommended in 1 to 3 months.
Positive results with the comment, “HBV DNA detected, but greater than 170,000,000 IU/mL", indicates that the level of HBV DNA present is above the quantifiable upper limit of this assay.
