Methodology Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
(PCR is used pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.) 
Description Useful as a prospective and diagnostic marker for development of nephropathy in renal transplant patients.

CAUTION:
Serial determination of blood specimens from patients may be necessary to monitor increasing (risk of development of nephropathy) or decreasing (treatment efficacy) levels of BKV DNA. 

Specimen Draw blood in a plain red top or serum gel tube. Spin down promptly (after clotting) and submit 2.0 mL (minimum 1.0 mL) serum FROZEN (-20 degrees C).

NOTE:
1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
