Methodology Platelet adhesion and aggregation 
Description Used as an aid to assess platelet dysfunction and von Willebrand disease. The PFA-100 test induces platelet activation as blood is made to flow through an aperture. The time taken for the blood to form a platelet plug occluding the aperture is an indication of platelet function and von Willebrand factor. 
Specimen Draw blood in 2 light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tubes and 1 lavendar top tube.The specimen must be drawn at the NorDx Bramhall Campus. Forward immediately at ambient temperature only. TESTING MUST BE PERFORMED WITHIN 3 HOURS OF COLLECTION.
