Methodology Radioimmunoassay (RIA) 
Description Useful for assessing susceptibilty to autoimmune (type-1, insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus and related endocrine disorders (e.g., thyroiditis and perniciaous anemis), for distinguishing between patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, for confirming a diagnosis of stiff-man syndrome and autoimmune cerebellitis, and for confirming susceptibilty to organ-specific neurological disorders 
Specimen Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1.5 mL (minimum volume 1.0 mL) of serum refrigerated. 
Reference Values < or = 0.02 nmol/L 
Analytic Time 2 Days-negative; 3 Days-positive
