Methodology Atomic Absorption-Graphite Furnace 
Description For patients six years of age or younger. 
Specimen A minimum of 0.3 mL EDTA or sodium heparin whole blood (venous or capillary collection) is required. Mix well after collection and send specimen refrigerated.

NOTE:
1. Please include source of draw : VENOUS or CAPILLARY on request form.
2. A Lead Testing Form must accompany all specimens. Please click on " REQUIRED LEAD FORM - MAINE CDC" under Special Instructions below. Complete form prior to printing. . 

Reference Values REFERENCE RANGE FOR CHILDREN (under 6 years of age):
<5 µg/dL – Normal
5-9 µg/dL – Confirm with venous lead in 3 months, retest in 3 months
10-14 µg/dL – Confirm with venous lead in 1 months, retest in 3 months
15-19 µg/dL - Confirm with venous lead in 1 months, retest in 2 months
20 – 44 µg/dL - Confirm with venous lead in 1 months, retest in 1 months
>= 45 µg/dL – Medical Intervention Needed, Please call MCLPP, (207) 287- 4311

5 – 25 ug/Dl: “REPORTING TO THE MAINE OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE REGISTRY, (207)287-5378, IS VOLUNTARY. Reference range for adults (6 years and greater) is <= 5 ug/Dl per CDC/NIOSH guidelines.”
