|Test||P63, IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY STAIN|
|Description||P63 is present in a variety of benign epithelial tissues. Nuclear staining is present within the myoepithelial cells of the breast and in basal cells of the prostate. Staining is absent or diminished in adenocarcinoma of the breast and prostate (as well as other cancers such as bladder carcinoma.) P63 is useful in distinguishing between benign and malignant neoplasms.
NOTE: This test is usually ordered in conjunction with a pathology consultation. The pathology professional component will be billed separately by the consulting pathologist.
