|Test||VILLIN, IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY STAIN|
|Description||Villin is a 95000D glycoprotein of microvilli associated with axial microfilament bundles of brush border microvilli in gastrointestinal mucosal epithelium. This antibody has been used to differentiate gastrointestinal (GI) carcinomas, neuroendocrine carcinomas, and ovarian carcinomas from adenocarcinomas arising in other organs. To a lesser extent, this antibody has been used to label Merkel cells in the skin.
NOTE: This test is usually ordered in conjunction with a pathology consultation. The pathology professional component will be billed separately by the consulting pathologist.
