Methodology Immunochemiluminometric Assay (ICMA) 
Description Determination of insulin levels, along with proinsulin and C-peptide measurements, may be useful in the diagnosis of insulinoma. The assay may also be used in the management of diabetes mellitus.

NOTE: Please order this test if patient is 16 years of age or younger. For adult patients order INSULIN, SERUM (INSLN). 

Specimen Draw blood in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and separate serum within one hour. Send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.2 mL - does not allow for repeat testing) of serum frozen in a plastic, screw-capped vial. 
Reference Values Following a 4 -12 hour fast: 0-8 years: 0-13 uU/mL

Pubertal Children and Adults: 0-17 uU/mL

Adults

(Sustacal): 7.6 - 26 uU/mL

2 Hours Post
Glucose (75gm): 15 - 53 uU/mL
