Test Code FLLPD
Test FLOW CYTOMETRY LYMPHOMA / LPD / MDS PANEL
Methodology Flow Cytometry
Description Useful for the diagnosis of Lymphoma, CLL, Anemia, Pancytopenia, Thrombocytopenia, MDS, Waldenstrom's.

Note: This test is usually ordered in conjunction with a physician interpretation. The physician professional component will be billed separately by the consulting physician.

Specimen SPECIMENS MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF COLLECTION
Submit only one of the following specimens:

BLOOD:
Both sodium heparin and EDTA whole blood are required for this test. Draw blood in green-top (sodium heparin) tube(s), and lavender-top tube(s). Send 10 mL of sodium heparin whole blood and 5.0 mL of EDTA whole blood at ambient temperature only. (CLOTTED SPECIMEN IS UNACCEPTABLE.)

BONE MARROW
Submit 1.0 mL if bone marrow in a special bone marrow collection tube, available by calling the NorDx Flow Cytometry Lab (207-396-7912). Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

TISSUE:
The amount of tissue needed is dependent on the cellularity of the specimen. Generally, a 2-10 mm section of fresh tissue is adequate. Place fresh tissue in a container with RPMI media (supplied by NorDx Flow Cytometry lab, 207-396-7912). TISSUE RECEIVED IN A FIXATIVE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Label container with patient's name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

FLUID:
Pleural, peritoneal, pericardial or BAL fluid collected in a sterile container. Add RPMI media if available. The amount of fluid required is dependent on cell count, but as a general rule 50-250 mL of fluid is required. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

CSF:
CSF collected in a sterile container. Add RPMI media if available. The amount of fluid required is dependent on cell count. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

NOTE: Date of collection is required on the request form for processing.
