METFR / METAF-M
METANEPHRINES, FRACTIONATED, 24-HOUR URINE

Test Code METFR / METAF-M
Test METANEPHRINES, FRACTIONATED, 24-HOUR URINE
Methodology Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) Stable Isotope Dilution Analysis
Specimen 10 mL (minimum: 2.0 mL) from a 24-hour collection. Add 10 g (pediatric: 3 g) of boric acid or 25 mL (pediatric: 15 mL) of 50 % acetic acid as preservative at start of collection. See "Urine Preservatives" in Special Instructions for multiple collections. Send specimen refrigerated.

NOTE:
1. 24-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
2. Follow 'Urine Collection" Instructions.
3. Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), labetol, and sotalol medications may elevate levels of metanephrines producing results which cannot be interpreted. If clinically feasible, it is optimal to discontinue these medications at least one week before collection.
