Description Useful in the detection of acute leukemia

NOTE: this test is usually ordered in conjuction with a pathology consultation. The pathology professional component will be billed separately by the consulting pathologist. 

Specimen SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:

PERIPHERAL BLOOD:
Draw 2.0 mL of blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Peripheral
smears must be made within 1 hour of draw. Include 5 - 10
unstained peripheral blood smears, if possible. Forward promptly
at ambient temperature only.

BONE MARROW
Forward 1.0 - 5.0 mL of bone marrow in a green top tube. Include 5 - 10 unstained bone marrow aspirate smears, if possible. Forward promptly at amient temperature. 

Reference Values An interpretive report will be issued.
