Test VARICELLA-ZOSTER VIRUS (VZV) ANTIBODIES, IgG, SERUM 
Methodology Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) 
Description Useful for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies to Varicella virus. The presence of demonstrable IgG generally indicates immunity acquired naturally or via immunization. 
Specimen Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia. 
Reference Values Negative: Negative for Varicella IgG antibodies, presumed non-immune to VZV infection
Equivocal: Equivocal for Varicella IgG antibodies, suggest retesting in 10 - 14 days if clinically indicated
Positive: Positive for Varicella IgG antibodies, presumed immune to VZV infection
