|Description||Useful as an initial test for acute intermittent porphyria|
|Specimen||10 mL (minimum volume: 1.0 mL) of light-protected urine from a 24-hour urine collection. Add 30 mL of 30% glacial acetic acid at the start of collection to an amber collection container. For multiple collections, see "Urine Preservatives". Mix well, measure and record 24-hour volume, and send aliquot FROZEN and LIGHT PROTECTED. NOTE: Specimen must be kept refrigerated during collection.
