Methodology High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) 
Description Useful for monitoring penicillin G therapy in patients, especially patients in renal failure; evaluating patient compliance 
Specimen Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). (SERUM GEL TUBE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.) Serum for a peak level should be drawn 30 to 60 minutes after dosing. Serum for a trough level is usually drawn no more than 30 minutes before the next dose. Spin down within 2 hours of draw and send 1 mL (minimum 0.3mL) of serum frozen in plastic vial. 
Reference Values Peak: 2.0 - 20.0 mcg/mL
