CHOLR / 007286L
ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE, ERYTHROCYTES

Test Code CHOLR / 007286L
Test ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE, ERYTHROCYTES
Methodology Spectrophotometry (Ellman) - Kinetic
Description Erythrocyte cholinesterase is measured to diagnose organophosphate and carbamate toxicity and to detect atypical forms of the enzyme. Cholinesterase is irreversibly inhibited by organophosphate insecticides and reversibly inhibited by carbamate insecticides. Serum or plasma pseudochdinesterase is a better measure of acute toxicity, while erythrocyte levels are better for chronic exposure.
Specimen Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Send entire specimen (minimum volume: 1.0 mL) refrigerated in the original Vacutainer™ tube. Sample must arrive within 24 hours of draw.
Reference Values 5,300 - 10,000 U/L
Analytic Time 2 Days
Day(s) Test Set Up Monday through Friday
CPT Code(s) 82482
